The YMCA has been part of the Hayward and Castro Valley and surrounding communities for more than 50 years. We started out as the South County branch, first in a building on B Street and then in a converted house on Mission Street in Hayward. In 1979, our name changed to the Eden Area YMCA and we moved one more time to Palisade Street. Over the years, our commitment to serving the diverse children and families who make Hayward and Castro Valley their home hasn’t changed.
We offer a full range of services for tots, schoolchildren, teens and their parents. In addition to our Early Learning Center for infants and toddlers, we run three before and afterschool sites, Summer Day Camps and youth sports programs.
GOALS & PLANS
Our programs are the tools we use to accomplish our mission and achieve our vision of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Our programs are founded on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our approach builds the abilities of each child and teen to help them grow to be caring, competent and successful.
We plan to:
• Expand our offerings in health/wellness, teen leadership, academic enrichment & character development
• Continue to offer quality programs that reflect the needs of the children and families we serve
• Grow the reach of programs that allow community youth to express themselves physically and creatively
With the help of our community partners, we will engage in ongoing assessment to define the needs of our members and our communities. We will continue to offer even more quality programs - open to all, regardless of the ability to pay. Achieving these goals will ensure that the YMCA meets the needs of the Eden Area Community.
